The children of Green-Schools Committee are the main ambassadors for spreading Green-Schools news. After each Green-School Committee meeting they relay developments and progress to all classes.

Mrs. McCauley is our Green-Schools Co-ordinator. She oversees the development of new projects throughout the school.

First Class B interviewed Mrs McCauley about all the strategies our school has in place to care for our school and our environment.

Through our interview with Mrs McCauley first class B learned that we can recycle bottles, batteries, old mobile phones, greeting cards and stamps through our school. A member of the Green-Schools committee collects these items from our classroom every Wednesday for recycling.

First class B learned that it is very important that every single one of us take part in keeping our classroom, playground and our surrounding areas neat and clean. We now immediately pick up any rubbish we see in our playground, our school and our surrounding areas and put it in the bin.

Our Compost Poster

First class B are very good at putting pencil sharpens, apple cores and banana skins into our compost bin. We recycle any left over paper by putting it in the blue bin in our classroom.

We all had great fun drawing a picture of all the ways in which our school and everyone in our school helps to care for our environment.

The Parent’s Council produce a regular school newsletter. We always include a Green-Schools section to keep parents and the wider community up to date with all progress and developments in the area of Green-Schools as well as reminding them about recycling programmes ongoing in the school.

GS Art

At the beginning of each year, the school sends out a School Information Booklet. We ensure that a detailed Green-Schools section is included to remind all parents and pupils of our commitment to Green-Schools. For the past two years our school has participated in Wexford County Council’s Environmental “Christmas Decoration” competition and we were delighted when one of our pupils, Kate Roche, won the overall prize in 2005 with her “Mr. Snowman”. Now the Christmas trees at our school are only decorated with recycled materials made by our pupils.
