Staying Warm

In our survey we asked what kind of heating people have at home. The most popular types of heating appear to be oil and coal heating. Both of these are fossil fuels.

The human race is using up all the worlds sources of fossil fuels. Soon they will all be gone.

According to our research, supplies of oil will last about 40 more years, natural gas will be gone in about 70 years and we only have enough coal to last about 230 more years.

Our survey shows that no one is using newer alternative energy sources such as solar energy or wood pellet burning to heat their homes.

However, people will have to change how they heat their homes if they want to stay warm in the future. They will also have to find another way to power their cars.

We wanted to find out how long people turn on the heating every day. You can see that people enjoy leaving their heating on when it’s cold.

That’s fair enough. People in Ireland like to stay warm. Alternative sources of heat such as wood pellet stoves offer the warmth and comfort of wood heating. They are also highly efficient, clean burning, and they save people time and money.

We asked if people leave the windows open when the heating is turned on. It turns out that over a fifth of people either sometimes or always leave their windows open when the heat in on.

It makes sense to close windows when the heating is on. This saves energy. However, even a closed window can allow eight times more heat escape than walls.
