A few years ago we created a new school garden. Our old garden was moved when we got our new school building. We found the perfect spot at the back of the school, near to the playground.
We decided to do two murals and to make flower beds. Having searched in fairy tale books we sketched an underwater and a jungle scene. She went to the hardware store and bought some weather shield paint. Then we brought out pupils to help with painting. Our teacher, Ms. Lawless and a couple of tall people did the high parts of the background. Kathleen Dobbs and Miss O’ Grady mixed different colour paints, they looked really abstract. They then started to paint on a glaze. Our caretaker, Mr. Hyland, bought railway sleepers and cut them to size. Then he put in clay and soil around them. Next we planted marigold flowers, apple trees and many more plants. It was great fun and now it’s a welcoming place that will always be remembered by young and old.
