School Garden

Our School

Students from the Ms. McAteer's, Ms. Kelly's and Ms. O'Reilly's classes took on the project of the school garden this year. We choose plants and vegetables with sensory qualities i.e. plants which interesting textures, colours, scents, and vegetables which the children like to eat. This is a work in progress and next year we will add wind chimes and items which appeal to the sense of hearing. We gave regular garden reports at Assembly to keep the rest of the school up to date on our progress. We planted herbs such as oregano, mint, sage, fennel, thyme and parsley. Sweet pea, Sunflowers, Surfinia, Marigolds, Buzy Lizzy and Narturtims added a nice dash of colour and wonderful scents to the garden. Vegetables were particularly successful and included potatoes, peas, carrots, runner beans, dwarf beans, lettuce, Swiss chard, spring onion, cabbage, kale, tomatoes, courgettes, pumpkins and corn. Thanks to Pat our caretaker for all his help. We learned a lot from this project and hope to continue the work next year.
