Aim: To control the amount of wastage, recycling and composting in our school while also patrolling the litter in our classrooms
Objective: To aim for the above we developed our own goal; to monitor the litter in whole school (ie: its classrooms).
Step 1:
· 2A discussed the need for a ‘Clean Team’ to investigate and examine the classrooms in St. Senan’s Primary School.
· We drew up a list of important areas in the classroom that should be kept clean and tidy
· We stuck images of these ‘trouble areas’ onto card and made a poster
Step 2:
· Two girls from 2A had the important task of informing the school about our new incentive for patrolling litter in our classrooms
· There will be spot checks on a variety of classrooms throughout the next few months and the ‘Clean Team’ will be marking the ‘trouble areas’ on a score sheet; with either a red tick, orange tick or a green tick. A red tick means that the area is very untidy or that rubbish is unsorted. An orange tick means that the area(s) need improving but are not very untidy or that the bins are over half full with rubbish. A green tick means that the area is very clean and tidy or that the bins are only one third full.
Step 3:
· 2A thought that it was only far to award the classroom with the most amount of green ticks, a certificate and a reward… GOLDEN TIME!
· The ‘Clean Team’ reported back after their discussions with the many classrooms that a reward was a good incentive to make them keep their own classrooms tidy and clean.
Step 4:
· The tidiest classroom of any given week will be announced at assembly by a member from the ‘Clean Team’
· All records of class scores will be filed in our Litter Patrol Monitoring Journal.
