Firstly, we asked if people leave lights turned on when they are not in the room. We were glad to see that only a third of people said they leave lights on.

We asked how many lights would be turned on in the evening. As you can see most people leave on at least two or three lights.

Do you leave lights on?
How many lights?

People should try to turn off lights when people aren’t using them. This will save you money. This will also save energy, which reduces pollution in our environment.

As of January 2007, electricity prices in Ireland will increase nearly 20% on average. This means all our household electricity bills will be more expensive. By saving energy our families will save money.

The rising cost of oil and gas is causing this price increase. The price of natural gas is now 40% higher, while oil is 36% higher than this time last year. It’s interesting to note that the costs of renewable energy sources are still the same.

Renewable energy sources include Wind Power, Hydropower which uses the power of water, and Solar Power which uses the power of the sun.

The electricity in our school is generated by wind power. No pollution is created when we turn on our lights or computers.

We asked if people use energy saver light bulbs at home. Just over a quarter of people surveyed use energy saver light bulbs at home.

Using energy saving light bulbs can save people up to €150 to €200 per year.
