Fís Film Project for Primary Schools

Throughout the term of the project the children are enabled to:
· appreciate the difference between watching a film at home and watching a film in the cinema
· briefly learn about the history of the cinema
· understand the elements which make up a film
· appreciate how each of these elements contribute to the film
· understand that there are different types of animation
· appreciate the basic principle of animation
· understand how the story is told through the medium of film
· appreciate that books are adapted into films
· understand how the passing of time, words and stories are used in both books and in films
· learn the names of different shots and understand the use of storyboarding in film-making
· draw and colour their own storyboard
· learn the different parts of the camera and use the camera
· realise the importance of the safe use of the camera in the classroom and outside the classroom
· understand and gain a knowledge of the different elements in a film soundtrack
· understand how the elements of sound are important in the setting of mood and tone in a film
· realise that the sound mixer puts all these sounds together in a film
· discuss the people working in film in Ireland and to acknowledge a selection of Irish films,
· discuss the stories in Irish films
· learn about marketing and how it is used in promoting a film
· draft a storyline for a class film, as a group
· learn about the structure and layout of a script
· appreciate the purpose of a script in film-making
· write the script for their class film, as a group
· devise and draw a storyboard for their class film
· appreciate the rules for film-making and create their own class rules for filming
· realise the preparation required before filming can begin, e.g. writing release forms, casting, crew job allocation, creating sound effects, organising props, costumes, and make-up
· participate fully in making their own class film
