We learned how to use the camera and sound. If we heard any type of noise we had to tell the director straight away. We learned how to set up the camera and to connect the microphone and the earphones to the camera. The play button was also the pause button. When the director said ‘Action’ we had to play the camera and when the director said ‘Cut’ we had to pause the camera. When the director said ‘We will try that again’, we had to pause it and play it again. (Craig Dwyer and Laura O’ Neill – Camera Operators)
Boom Operators
“We learned how the boom worked. The boom is a microphone that collects the sound. We held the boom out of the shot each time. Sometimes the boom got in the shot. We had to make sure we could hear the actors and nobody was talking in the background. We used earphones to tell if there was other sounds on set, and if there was we had to stop filming.” (Lar Mac Donald And Klaudia Kulakowska – Boom Operators)
