Mini Sevens Hurling and Football 2006

This year our boys have played in both the mini sevens hurling and football competitions. Our first competition was the football one which was held in the Shamrocks field in early March. We played against Kilmyshal and Ballindaggin. In what proved to be an ultimately unsuccessful tournament we recorded a fine victory over Kilmyshal with Liam Ryan and Lar McDonald in fine form. However a defeat against Ballindaggin ended our run.

Hurling

This was a very entertaining game which we could easily have won but alas lady luck was not with us. The boys who took part were Michael O’Toole, Conor Kirwan , Rhys Fortune , Paraic Flynn , Liam Ryan , Dylan Walshe , Mark Murphy, Lar McDonald, Conor Kelly and Michael O’Neill.

Going for Goal

We enjoyed greater success in the hurling tournament when we won through the first round after recording fine victories over Kilmyshal and Boolavogue. We then faced St. Aidans , Marshalstown and Barntown . We first met Marshalstown and with Paraic Flynn controlling the midfield and Liam Ryan in terrific form up front we recorded a fine victory. Barntown were our opponents in our second match and they proved to be a quite strong team but with Rhys Fortune dominating in the back line and Michael O’Toole in good scoring form we edged out a deserved victory.

St. Aidans were our last opponents and as they had also recorded two victories it meant that whoever won would progress to the next round . Ultimately St. Aidans won through but not before our boys gave them one tough match.

Our attention now switches to the Rackard League hurling championship which is due to commence this Thursday with a fixture in our own field against Monageer/Boolavogue.
