We asked people if they fill their kettle every time they boil it. Over two fifths of people either sometimes or always fill their kettle every time they boil it.

It’s important to know that it takes more energy to boil a full kettle than it does a half full one. Don't overfill your kettle - only boil as much water as you need. Fill the cup with water first and then put it into the kettle. Be careful to cover the element with water, however.

We asked if people turn on the dishwasher, when it’s not full. Our results show that most people don’t turn it on. That’s good to see.

Do you use a lagging jacket?
Do you fill the kettle?

You should wait until the dishwasher is full before turning it on. You could also stop the dishwasher before the drying cycle and open the door to let the dishes air dry. You should always use the economy button where possible, if you have one.

Our last question was if people have a lagging jacket on their emersion heater. We were glad to see that four fifths of people do.

An 80mm jacket can cut heat loss by 75%. This will save energy. The hot water will stay hot longer and you will save money on heating.
