“We thought up and wrote the script together in class. We gave names to fifteen characters. We wrote lines for fifteen characters. We had to learn our lines every night We made up special phrases such as “that’s shiny” and “it took me light years”. Teacher printed out our script for each of us. We had to learn the lines off by heart, so we would not make mistakes in the film.
When we were in the shot we were not allowed to look at the camera. The director told us when to use hand movements or not. If we made a mistake we would have to film another shot. We wore silver costumes with shiny belts. We wore black clothes under them. When we were acting everyone has to be quite. The girls had to keep their hair out of there faces. The boys gelled there hair up and the make-up people helped.” (Abbie Canavan, Padraic Flynn and Mamobo Ogoro – Actors)
“It wasn’t easy to act. It was cold and some parts were hard - like running up a hill in a pair of sandals. The costume I was wearing a tunic belonged to the school and a pair of my Mammy’s sandals. It was shot on Vinegar hill and it was freezing. The scene where I was hitting the free and the banquet scene took the longest.” (John O’Connor – Actor)
“I played Cullen in the movie. I was also an extra. When we filmed on Vinegar Hill, it was freezing up there. It was hard to act in nothing but long t-shirts and shorts. My make-up artists put a very noticeable black eyeliner moustache on me. We shot many takes on different shots, and we had a great time looking at all the mistakes. I had a brilliant time making the movie.” (Aideen Doyle – Actor)
